Zipper pouches!

These are some gifts that I made recently.  I made a few different ones and then let the recipients pick out their favorite!  They were for my music students so for fun I put music fabric on the inside lining!  I LOVE making these little zipper pouches!  The possibilities are endless!

Shouldn't everything have a yoyo on it somewhere?

I think I should have quilted this one with black thread.  Next time for sure!!

I had fun using my embroidery stitches on my Bernina on the handle of this pouch!  It looks really cool!

I get my zippers at The Zipperstop.  They are SO CHEAP if you buy them in bulk.  I only buy them in groups of 12, and they are even cheaper if you by them in groups of 100.   =)  Its fun to have a bin of zippers ready to go that were only 23 cents a piece.  

I have a ridiculous amount of music note fabric....

Ruflle Purse

The other night I didn't feel like grading papers.  I've had this beautiful Poppy fabric staring at me for a while.  I was hunting for a fun zipper tutorial when I stumbled upon Gussy Sews! I LOVE the little ruffles she puts on her bags.  You can see some pictures on her post here.

I still made my zippered bag the way I like to, but I tried my hand at a ruffle!

 

Ruffle placement was difficult because of the size of the Poppies on this print.  I think next time the ruffle will definitely be vertical.

It's a bit hard to tell, but that's Tinkerbell in there!

For the Strap I cut my fabric a width of 2 1/4".  Then I fused some leftover interfacing (Pellon 911FF) over the entire 2 1/4" x 50".  (I made it my normal way... I folded it in half and ironed.  Then opened it up and folded both of the edges toward the middle.  Then in half again!!)   

I REALLY like how the strap turned out.  The interfacing is awesome!

I think attaching the straps this way worked.  It's not completely ideal, but its fine.  I have another idea brewing... we'll see when I have time to sew again!

Illini Zipper Pouch

My fabulous husband is a school teacher.  As a result we (he) gets TONS of Gift Cards.  They have been kept in many different places.... huge wicker basket, desk drawer, gift bag, etc...  In my efforts to get organized I told him I would make him a holder for his gift cards.  

It works beautifully!  I knew that he had many, many to store so I made the bag with bottom corners.  It works great!  Everything fits perfectly.  =)  

I found the fabric down in Urbana last summer.  We don't have have any nifty U of I stuff up here, just your basic patterns.  It was nice to find something different.

Cash & Carry Zipper Guys!

I made these for Christmas gift this past year! They are so easy to whip up because Cash & Carry is a fabulous pattern by Atkinson Designs. I've made all kinds of variations! It is quite possibly the best tutorial on zippers. After this you will never be afraid of zippers again. A friend of mine and I ordered a ton of zippers in bulk from ZipperStop.
